I took my honey to The Rhinecliff Hotel, in the small hamlet along the Hudson River. Designed by the architect George Veitch in 1854, The Rhinecliff served travelers riding the Kingston ferry, and the "new" Hudson River Railroad, through Dutchess County. In 2003, The Rhinecliff was shuttered after surviving as a bar for decades. Today, the Queen Anne-style building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and after a five-year, $5 million restoration, has reopened as an interesting old hotel. The owners, the brothers James and David Chapman, salvaged many original materials, including the bar, wooden beams, all the original wood floorboards, even the old freezer. Our room had a private balcony overlooking the Hudson, and we took full advantage of the Full "Sturgeon" Moon last night!
