One can’t be read, need to clean it, one 1982, one 1983 and one a little older a nice 1967 US penny. A little better bell curve thus time. With M. Manticore. It’s almost as if it’s a penny finder, you concentrate on the centerline and read the higher conductive targets, 95% are modern pennies.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

WHich detector do you like best ? the Legend or the Manticore ?

Manticore is slightly better, though the Manticore has its faults, it faults in the sense that it reads can tops and bottle caps as high conductive targets. Not easy to figure out how best to discriminate those targets.

Good reply. Thank you for taking time to explain :)

Though, it will be 2035:laughing7: before a can top or bottle cap will be clearly rejected, 2045 before aluminum is rejected😆 just too bad that we have to work extra hard for the good finds.

Hey, great finds with the Manticore! Those pennies from '67, '82, and '83 are cool additions, and it’s no surprise the Manticore’s nailing those high-conductivity targets. Its Multi-IQ+ technology is a beast for picking up coins like that, especially when you focus on the centerline signals. You’re spot-on about modern pennies dominating at 95%—copper composition (pre-’82) and zinc (post-’82) really pop on this machine. For that unreadable penny, try a gentle soak in distilled water or a quick electrolysis bath to clean it up without damage. If you’re consistently hitting pennies, maybe tweak the discrimination to notch out some of the zinc signals (around 20-25 on the ID scale) to chase higher-value targets like silver coins or relics. What settings are you running on the Manticore, and what kind of sites are you hunting? Keep us posted on any killer finds!

Hi, thanks for your kind words, I use general trash reject. I used to use a White’s GMT and I used to dig out the toonies and loonies. The Manticore does not show those on the centreline and so I rarely find those anymore. As for any coin of value, I don’t think I have ever found anything older than a Wheat cent. 1950. I keep trying to find the 30’s 20’s and the 19th century but are as of yet quite elusive. Parks curb strips that sort of thing. That unreadable coin turned out to be a clad, basically you know…the ironic thing is that people have found large cents in parking lots albeit northern old towns by my estimate.
