Hey guys, long time no see! I found this during my vacation in the granite state of New Hampshire. I had permission to detect a field that was once a civil war camp from friends of the family. I will be back at the end of august! Anyway, I am not sure what this is, it came up as brass when I was on the field. My thoughts was a flag topper but not sure. Its too pointy and not ornate. Someone told me it could be a tent pole piece, an arrow or a soldering cap. Its too heavy to be an arrow. Would appreciate it if someone could tell me what it is. It's definitely old and odd. But a neat find! :headbang:

I’m guessing a tri pod leg piece. Needs the weight to be stable and needs the point to be planted in the ground. Whatever it is . Congrats

Looks like a target point arrowhead.

Getting a measurement or placing an object like a coin or lighter to show size nest to it would help. Good luck.

Well... Not 1860's. Maybe 1960's...

From back in the day when adult business men said to each other, "Hey, let's make a toy with a pointy, steel tip and tell kids to throw it!"

This was in the early days of common sense becoming a rare trait. The 1960's was the start of the downfall.

It does have a similarity to them. But its made of brass though. Im sure they must have made brass darts too.

I'll take better pictures, i was just excited when I found it and had to share it lol. I will use a ruler too, never thought of measuring it. Anyway, it could be a dart, It has a screw hole in the bottom. Or it could be home made. It also could be from the early forties or earlier. But yet, brass was scarce at that time because of the war.

Talk about non-common sense... All of us neighbor boys would get together and play "chicken" with the yard darts! I was 11-12 then... And, YES I took a few hits... BUT I WON!!! So stupid...?

Yeah... we used to do it with a bow & arrow.
Couldn't see where it went until it hit the ground!!
And we had BB gun wars too!
Yes it's a wonder we survived.
Couldn't get away with that in this Nanny State these days....

I'm sticking with leather punch. For belts and horse tack. How big of a hole would it make if you were to add another hole to a belt of yours using a mallet or hammer?

The good old days. How did we survive and not become wussies.
