Found this coin on Monday in SW PA at early 1800?s cellar in woods. Size of a LC, but thinner like worn KG.

Does anyone see any details that can help ID this? Thx!

Not much to go on... Just based on shape and size it could be a 17th C Spanish 8 maravedis.

Nice find...are you 100% certain that it's copper?

Was there crustiness when you dug it or did it pop out looking like this?

Copper or some other metal...see, it has been clipped or shaved, along margin of the coin...
Great Find!

Obviously not a buffalo nickel, but the pic sure reminds me of the bust of a native American. Prolly just seeing things, tho.

Yes definitely copper, just the best angle to show details gives it a silvery reflection look. Had crusty layer, then green verdigris layer, now anymore cleaning will make shinny copper over cleaned look.

There was a second odd wiped copper 10 feet away at this site.

The second copper had me thinking Spanish copper because of the shape.

Copper coins as early as KG1 and early Hibernia?s (early 1700?s) are found fairly regularly around my parts, but never coins from the 1600?s.

Thx for your help.

Can you provide the size of the object with a scale or ruler..

Weight and specific gravity would be very useful as well....
