I don?t think it is much but anything I dig with numbers or letters makes me want to find out what it is lol. Any help much appreciated pretty heavy piece BY-5731 , diamond with a D , any guesses

You must be near an old cotton mill. That logo or mark is from a Draper Loom. Im in north Georgia and live 50 yards from a 180 year old cotton mill and ive dug my share of Draper components over the years. Hundreds of individual components like that one you have there. If I remember right he was the man that brought in automation to the machine around 1900. Mt. Vernon Ware Shoals is the mills cohort in cotton manufacturing. IMG_0392 (Edited).JPG

Joe that is some awesome detective work and makes complete sense now. I dont know if you saw my most earlier this week where I found a Henry River Mill Village coin, and yep you guessed it they early 1900's they primarily made cotton yarn!. Thanks fr the help turns out to be a better piece than I thought. The two will display together
