Found this by Great Great Grandpa’s store, about 2 years ago thought it was aluminum. But looked again today and I found sterlin written on it.
Figuring out what this is and the age will be extremely appreciated.
7/8 tall x 1 inch wide.
Half of a Match holder would be my guess.

Hi IHC656,
Confederate Civil War Era Model Army Eagle Sword Silver Plated Belt Buckle Plate
Hope others more qualified than me to confirm?
Really interested that the Eagle's Head points left rather than right....South Confederate?

Thanks for your comment, but my item is 7/8 x 1 inch. And is a container of some sort.

I believe that items were first getting the sterling mark after 1870, if that helps.I agree with matchholder
Thanks for that information, also helps better date my cane top.
Current store was built in 1908. But there was an older store prior.

Looks to be the bottom half of a Foster and Bailey "Stamp Safe." So for keeping postage stamps in I guess.

You may have a bingo.
And judging by photograph’s this was behind where the original store was that had a post office inside.
Wow and thanks.
Attached are the pictures of the stores. Current store is the cement block building. And the white building was said to have a post office inside.
