Can anyone tell me what this is? I dont think it is anything but I thought I would see if someone had any ideas. Thanks.

Looks like a broken needle top, but hard to tell with nothing to reference size.

Thanks for the replies. I dont know what it is. I am at a loss. From the pic it does look like a tipfrom a gun cleaning rod, but it is too big for that. It is about 5 inches in length, and about an inch wide at its widest point. I was thinking it might be a handle off of an old pot, but dont know. I think it is some sort of handle anyway, and if anyone out there knows anything it could be, please let me know.

When you through something out for ID, always show a reference object for size, list the material, and an estimate weight. Also furnish info like is the left side drilled out or threaded. It does look like a frying pan handle. Frank

Yes I should have did that. Wasn't seeing from everyone elses perspective when I posted it. It probably is an old pot handle or from an old pan. Not iron though it looks to be nickel plated copper. Most of the nickel is gone. I will try to do an internet search and see what I come up with.

i have seen a small tack hammer with that same handle type it possible it may one ?

Looks like a handle from a fireplace poker or a cable truss connecter for a telephone pole. Just a guess .

The easiest way to test for iron is a magnet. As far as the plating. There is a process called triple chrome plating. In reality, the item is copper plated, then nickel plated, then chrome plated. Frank

This thing is solid copper. It is broke where the loops terminate into a single shaft, and at that break you can see it is solid copper thru and thru. At the very least I have me a good size piece of scrap copper to add to the collection.
