Have no idea what it is I see some type of key hole at the bottom only thing I recognize. It seems to be gilded in gold or something. Please of anyone has any knowledge I'd really like to know what this was used for.?

Looks like an older dead bolt type of door latch, hole for the chain the insert, nub for excess chain to attach to and the nail holes. But I don't know, just the first thing that came to mind

I had similar thought; hole is not a key hole but a 'latch catch'; a place to store the latch chain when not in use.

Hmm that's interesting. Does it look gilded? And to what would the last most likely be out on. It would have been on the side of the house.
