I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Detector18! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). Looks like it was originally a cylinder shape. I'm guessing part of an embossed brass oil lamp.

I see what you mean. A twist lock socket. I think this piece is pre-automobile.

The pattern is like late 19th C copper ceiling tiles.
