Very interesting, but not a clue what it is. Just a single hole in the back/butt?

Yep.....it is one solid piece. The piece on the butt sure looks like it would slide into some kind of receiver/holder.

I'm thinking ceskol had just nailed this one down on what this little utilitarian piece of art was made for. I was thinking it was a handle of some kind made in the likeness of a famous sculpture. That little guy just may have a good price attached to it in the tobacciana collecting community? I gave 3 bucks once for a used Dunhill pipe at a flea market and got 160 bucks out of it. The Asians are big spenders of this product line of vintage tobacco collecting and I'm always looking over any estate pipes I see. The right items are for sure hidden treasures in that collecting field. I'd find out more on what metal it's made of. I'm thinking you found treasure on what ever it is found to be

Creskol and Tamrock I think you are both on to something. I found a "mannekin pis pipe tamper" on ebay that looks somewhat similar. He seems rather small to be used for that purpose, but then I've never smoked a pipe or tamped tobacco. I'd like to keep this thread open a little longer and see if there is something definitive out there. Thanks again for the great leads!

I thought it seemed small also, but kids back then aren't the same as todays. They got a job at the mine and their own pipe on their 6 or 7th birthday? 60 grand in student loans, What the hell for :dontknow: You got a job!

Child labor laws. Who needs 'em! Got my first job loading railroad ties for $2.10 an hour at age 13. Freakin' ties weighed twice what I did!

My summer job at 13 was hand pulling weeds out of a soy bean field. Wasn't heavy work but hell out in the hot and humid summer sun, you were best to look back from time to time to see how far you went. Looking ahead just made the day longer, but I did like that jingle it put in my pocket. When I was 18 I got a job on a section crew for the Chicago North Western RR for a short time and when winter came I started looking in the want adds and got a job as a delivery truck driver that later broke me in as a sheet metal fabricator at a shop that did custom sheet metal fab work. Now when get old and it comes time to retire I'll have all kinds of things to do as a hobby from what I did in making that money. Kind of like this guy who worked construction moving heavy stuff most his life. He made a hobby out of all his work experiences.

It looks like an old-style football helmet on the head?

School house find , could it have had a small handle and the teacher used it to ring the bell.

Ok......after showing to some old timers, pretty well confirmed the pipe tamper idea. It is small, but very similar in size to others on ebay. Thanks for the help/comments!
