So I spoke with a manager and vault teller at a large bank that services a large mall in my area. I asked about how many $500 bags of halves would be too much for them to process comfortably, IE not get annoyed at me. They said, anything less than 20/week is fine :hello2:

So, volume is upped in response to that good news. I will do 10 bags there, 4 at another branch, 4 at a different bank, and 4-5 at my home branch of the first bank. Things are looking up. ;D

Bank 1:

1) SKUNK
2) 67, 68
3) 65, 66x3, 68x2, 69
4) 64, 66x4, 67x5, 69
5) SKUNK
6) SKUNK
7) 64
8 ) SKUNK
9) 68

Bank 2

1) 67x2
2) 66, 67, 68, 69x3
3) 67, 69x2
4) SKUNK
5) 68
6) 66
7) 68x2, 69
8 ) 66, 67x2, 68
9) 66x2, 67
10) SKUNK

some pretty good boxes - congrats on the finds & the good news from your supply bank!

I expected to see more out of that sort of volume.

40% = 6.51 oz
90% = 1.09 oz
Total - 7.60 oz

Cant complain about the total oz though, I would not turn away from it.

I might have to ask my dump banks what the max per week in bags I would be allowed to bring in. I have been doing $1000 drops 1 time a week to not piss them off.

Yeah I did much better last week but those boxes were above average for my area I think. I am pretty happy over all, especially given I only spent about 4 hours total this week on CRHing.

Yeah, 4 hours you cant complain. That would be a longer trip for me with many hours spent in the car and a passenger seat full of wrappers LOL!

You should really see my passenger floor board. I need to pick up about $4,000 worth of wrappers. I might even find that missing $5 roll of dimes somewhere in there lol.

Looks like good numbers to me. How do you do all that in 4 hours? How long does it took you to go through a box? I'm guessing you don't have to put them in rolls when you dump. I'd say if you dump up to 4 bags at a time is fine. That's usually a number I'll do. The most I've dumped at once at a place is 6 which I felt bad about when I see some of their faces. I try not to push the envelope.

Pick ups and dumps to and from work, which really cuts down on time investment. The 11 boxes I did today took about 2 hours total. Dumping in bags, 5-6 at a time in the main branches here. I have been up front with the VT and managers. They get the cart out and I let them take my cart into the back to transfer into the vault. So far, so good.

Do you keep them in rolls when dumping? Or is loose ok? Bigheed says that down in LA, they're ok with loose but up here, they tell me they gotta keep them in rolls to get cash up front. Just wanted to see what the policy is like in those parts. Wish I could dump them loose around here. It'd speed it up for me. Right now, it takes around 20 min for me to look through a box and have them rolled. A lot of work so I cannot imagine doing 20 boxes if each takes 20 min.

Loose in bags work here for BoA and WF. I fill everything out and they take them for cash exchange. They dont even ask anymore, they just count the bags and fork over the cash. I have to admit its pretty easy. I also do most of my pickups/drop offs when doing deposits for my side business so I do not count that against my time. I can do a box in about 10 min edge checking, the wife and I go through 2 boxes/13-15 min or so.

Have you explained to the tellers as I have described in prior threads? Reference the bag to account number for adjustment if the bag is off?

The tellers at my dump banks know that they adjust if it's off. So far, I've never been off. The problem is that I've had tellers tell me that in order to get cash upfront, they need to be rolled, not loose. A couple tellers have said this so I don't try to push the envelope and change it up. I even had one assistant manager tell me this a while ago. I suppose I can ask of my better dump banks that I have a good relationship with and see what they say. They are however two cities away but are very cool with me dumping. The key is that I want the cash up front. I've had some banks that are not cool with dumping at all and not even cash upfront.

Try going to the merchant window and talk to one of those tellers, thats all I can think of. That assistant manager does not know what he is talking about, unless the big banks have policy's that vary by region. The professional tellers should know the drill.

Gonna tell ya now, you are most likely missing some silver.

Not only did I miss one back in December just edge checking with a quickness but had I had rechecked the same $380 a second time ( took them from the bank to get them out of their circulation ) I edge checked a second time but now I date check everything as well and that is when I found it. It looked like a dirty clad and not silver 40%.

Perhaps. Early on I did some experiments where I would edge check then go back and date check everything and see if I missed anything. Out of 10 boxes I missed 2x 40% halves. The difference in time investment between edge checking and date checking those 10 boxes was approx 1 hour 40min for edge checking approx 5 hours for date checking. So thats like $5/hour and 40 min at current silver prices. At my current volume it would take me 12 hours to go through all 20+/- I go through/week compared to 4 hours. Simply put, I couldn't do it. The end result, for me, is that I would gain less net silver by date checking due to lower volume.

Edge checking is not an issue and can still be done without looking at dates. The key is to focus on the white metal part not the copper part. When looking at edges, I will look at the white metal on the rims even if there's a lot of copper on it. I compare the white metal to the grey metal. The white metal will have a yellowish tint to it. I thought I was going to get skunked on 3 boxes Friday when I found 2 40%ers that edgewise looked like regular clad. The coins were basically casino coins. Very worn on the rims and the rims had a lot of copper showing. Most searchers would pass that up and I think these slipped through the cracks by the way they looked. Untrained tellers no doubt would not have kept them. Otherwise, I probably would've gotten skunked again. You train your eye enough, you can still edgecheck.

Thats some great advice. Thanks!

It would be sad for me if the only ones I get now looked like ones that slipped through the cracks. Although I got 2 in the 3 boxes, I knew that it still wasn't a good sign because those two were not obvious 40%ers. They were most likely mistakenly passed over due to a lot of copper on the rim and they were really beat up. One of them, the rim showed 80% copper color. I was really meant to get 3 skunks if that was what was intended.

You'd be complaining if you were in my shoes. Try 37 straight boxes with one 40%'er.
