Native American jewelery?

I found these two seperate times in early grade school when I spent my recesses searching for fossils in the gravel instead of swinging and climbing! The brown one is about an inch wide and the grey one is about an inch and a half wide, for size reference. They're about 1/8" and 1/4" in width. These holes were in them when I found them. I don't know where these would have originally come from. I suppose I could go through a long and boring process of finding where the school got their gravel and find where the gravel people are or came from...but I don't care nearly enough for all that! I don't know what kind of rocks they are at all. Anyway, thanks for your help!

The one on the left almost looks like pipestone which is usually pretty easy to carve. They could possible be a type of gorget. JMO

Yes, these are Indian jewelry pieces. I found one myself once in Western Michigan near one of the bayous.

The Indians used all kinds of stone and raw copper (float copper) to make jewelry plus all sorts of practical items (as old as 4,000 B.C.) . Later, when the white man came, they used the copper from cooking pots and Spanish copper cob coins.

Most of the holed U.S. large cents found today were originally Indian "tinkers." These made a tinkling sound as they clacked together and were thought to drive away the evil spirits.

Your pieces could be a lot older than you might think.

These are extremely light. Weights are typically made of lead anyway...

Ahhh I seee now, I wasn't aware that ancient tribes had access to Bass Pro shop's for lead weights, my mistake.
