Native American Pottery shard?

Just seeing if there was away to tell if this is Native American and not just old homesite use. Jars or moonshine jugs? It was found detecting very near civil war vicinity and two homesites in a rural area. If I remember correctly I think it was half buried . Some timber clearing in that area I was hunting .

One thing I find weird is, why are there ridges inside of it. Idk if a jar or jug would have those.

It's smooth and maybe a sheen on it , I can't tell if that's glaze or not

That’s super interesting. Definitely looks like pottery. Not sure about what the ridges are but it might be hard to tell if it’s native or from 17/18 hundreds depending on how old the house it in the vicinity.

In my opinion its not native american but an early piece from a 1700s to mid 1800s. Never seen native american pottery shard with a glazed finish. Looks to me to be salt glazed !

Looks like a shard of a stoneware jug , perhaps a salt glaze finish as suggested. Those ridge lines are common to see in the inside portions of a jug that would never be seen unless it was broken.

I’m no expert on jugs but what would ridges benefit a jug? If anything wouldn’t it just take up space?

It could be, enlarged it doesn't look like pottery.

I'd assume the ridges were formed by the makers hands as it was turned "inadvertantly" not thinking about the inside finish and it helped strengthen the walls .

True, I never thought about structural integrity.

Oh wow. That’s a beautiful piece. Now that I see it. It’s like when they were sculpting it. Three fingers made them, and they smoothed the outside.
