The oldest NA Pottery would be aprox. 4000 BCE to present times.

There are studies done that can determine pottery ages by how it was made, designs, tempering material, etc. I'm sure if you started searching the net you'll find plenty of articles. Pottery here in Florida is quite extensive & a lot of research has been done on it. I have quite a lot of sherds I've found, some are large but I'm not really that interested in pottery

Maybe post some pics of the sherds. Not everyone will get excited about them but the actual collectors of pottery will. I find it most times I go out but I don’t keep it much unless it has a nice design. I find mostly cord marked. Once in a while I will find something new to me. Sounds like you’re type will be called Brushed but just guessing. Maybe at of mine is Woodland period

Okay autocorrect has struck. Last sentence should say, most of mine I find is Woodland period. I’ve gotten a new update for autocorrect that even if you proof read it will automatically change to what it feels like you wanted to say. It’s terrible

Pictures Always help to get a better answer. Some of these items are widespread collectibles and others are quite niche. Follow CreekSide’s advice. The people who are into pottery will respond. Thanks for posting

You will find pottery from Late Archaic to Mississippian period. Anything before that will be Soapstone bowls.
