Navy Button - ID Needed

Was out this am at a cellar hole & dug this 2pc Navy button.

Hopefully someone can ID it as being US Navy and not a sports coat button, which I do not believe were around in the 1800s.

I can't ID it but it certainly looks more 'naval' related than Navy.

It was suggested on another forum that it might be a civilian sailors button.
