Navy Button Identification. PEASE HELP!!!

Found this button today and have no idea what to think of it. The back is very rusted but the shank is visible. If anybody has an idea let me know. Thanks.

Just because of the condition it looks to be like the modern blazer buttons I have seen posted on here. Waterbury maker I think.

Do you think that the button is in terrible condition and that is why it is fake?

The back is rusted so it must be iron. The navy did not use iron with the salt water and all.

looks like a union civil war button to me! where did you find it? Ifound one just like it in Cold Harbor Va. last spring It has a tin back which doesn't age well Great find!

I found it in the back of a 1870s house. I am starting to think that it is not real because other people are telling me that the back shouldn't rust like that unless it is certain type of button.

It was also found in the middle of a pile of new pennies and dimes. So that's my biggest problem with it.

I googled it and it looked almost right except for the end of the anchor seems to be in the wrong place.

i found this in the back yard of a old house that sits on top of a old civil war camp. and yes the back of my button has rust but its all there .

not sure how you can say that because the back is rusted it isnt real..i have found several civil war period buttons that the backs are rusted badly or completely rusted off.......
