Love the pics.....Jack Roush ( legendary NASCAR owner has a 51 painted just like the "OLD CROW" P-51 that legendary Bud Anderson flew during WWII. Roush occasionaly flies to the small airport near my house, lands to go visit his mother. Pretty cool plane & it usually gets a picture in the local paper whenever it arrives.

Also....love those 17's too. I read about the 8th AF a lot & really admire what those flyboys endured during the war.
Truly amazing & I totally appreciate what they and all others that served done for our country!

Dang, I have a pic of me standing by a prototype Mustang at a museum in Oshkosh, WI. Gotta find it and post it here. I don't think there is a military plane I don't like for one reason or another. They all have their history.

When I worked for Boeing in the early 90's, my first job was at the plant in Renton, WA where they made B-17's. A section of factory floor was cordoned off with cyclone fencing and a group of guys were restoring a B-17 that had flown many missions during WWII. I used to stop by and watch them on my lunch hour. Many of the volunteers were members of WWII bomber crews.

After watching me drool for weeks, they let me in the gate. I remember a feeling of awe as I thought about how many of our brave aircrews lost their lives. I also remember thinking that it must have been pretty cramped with a full crew. The B-17 is much smaller in person than I expected. And the ball-turret? Forget about it! No way would I have fit in that thing, not even with a shoe-horn.

Do you know where that B-17 is nowadays? Is it in a museum or is it actually flying at airshows? Just curious............see ya mark

I was stationed at NATC (Naval Air Test Center) in the late 60s. No Corsairs there at that time. Mostly Phantoms were in my area.
