So I found this brass little beauty in an area were I have found a good number of 1800 to civil war period military items, a few fancy high rank items like a diplomatic cloak clasp and some really nice buttons, all in an area about 2 acres. In the middle of a deep woods. I call the area "Hot Hill" .
The other day I found this, which I think might be some sort of tassel crimp, where a braided rope transitioned into a tassel. Like from a silk belt or bugle rope. Pure speculation, but it makes sense by the way it looks to me.
It is very detailed and looks to have an olive branch with one star on it at the top of each sprig.
Anybody have any insight?!

Thanks,
Kris

Possibly the pommel from a walking stick? I know it seems small for that, but in the Victorian period (and earlier) they were more often just an accessory, not weight bearing.

Looks like an ornament for the end of a cord or rope, push the cord through, tie a knot, and then pull the ornament down over the knot. Kinda like on a hooded coat, the drawstring? Being old and brass, I'd say it was for the drawstring of a woman's purse or some guy's money bag . How's that sound ?
