Need a little help

My 12 year old son and I found this in a local river and we would like some help identifying it.
We found it magnet fishing on an old railroad bridge that has been converted to a bike path.
In our town we have extensive logging history. To me it appears to be hand forged.

So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). Since it was found under a bridge that was converted to a bike path, I would say it is the bracket that hold the brake pads on a bicycle.

Just a guess of course.
