Hi everyone,

A friend of mine sent an image of a military button. It was obviously a US button. But this little thing has a very interesting story: it was found near a Turkish city named Afyonkarahisar. Now, this is the area where the last major battle of Greco-Turkish War of 1919-1922 took place. People who found this button also found human bones at the same location (I don't know if there were other finds, like fabric or any metal uniform piece). I did a quick search on the net and found that it was a type of button called Great Seal Button. We know that the Greek army then received US aid, which included army uniforms. But I want to get any more detailed information about this piece. As far as I can see, these buttons display small differences in design, like the arrowheads or the olive branch in the talons. I just want to find specific details about the production place or the exact timeframe for the production of this piece, if that is possible. I hope someone can help me. I am attaching images of both sides. The reverse reads AMERICA, but I couldn't work out the rest of the inscription. Thanks.

I believe it said “American Button Co” along the top, and “Newark N.J.” along the bottom.
Insofar as when it was produced, I see it having some remaining black finish which was used 1910-1924. Narrowing it down further, that company burned down in 1917.
