Need Help Identifying an Egg

My husband found this pewter (I think) egg. There are no markings that I can see but would love to learn more about it. Has anyone seen an egg like this before? It is about 3 1/2" tall.

I guess it could be an ornament, but how would you hang it on the tree there is no place for the hanger.

I looked at the google search, they are the same results that I received. It is just so interesting, I would really love to learn more, but can't find any information.

Well that is pretty dang close to my egg. I didn't consider that it could be silver, I assume it was pewter.

The hanger would be inserted into the hole at one end and hung on the tree with the other end; like this one:

It is silver maybe just silver plate. Mom had one in her collection many years ago. Great find...

I think it is so unique! I will have to test it for Silver. It is very thin and light so I don't know if silver plate is an option but let me see what I can find. Should I remove the grim and tarnish if it is silver?
