Need help identifying little gilded book like case in field at back of church

It's gilded copper and opened up like a book when I got it but hinge broke, its only 4 and a half cm tall and 4 cm wide, what was it and what was in it ?

Possibly the remains of a chatelaine notepad. Late Victorian era.

It's hard to tell much from your pictures. They are to low res and out of focus...

Thanks, that's great, it was in fields behind the protestant church and the Catholic priests parochial house, probably the Catholic priests
