Does anyone know what this could be? I found it just outside of Lynchburg, VA, along with some other Civil War/Revolutionary War artifacts. It seems to have two holes directly across from each other on one end. It is around 2 inches long.

Hi ldbaderman,
Welcome to the "Show"!

Looks like a part from a Musket Ramrod Pipe end of Ramrod?

Shaft tip is a good guess. It could also be the shield at the end of a shovel handle, where the blade attaches to bottom of the handle. They keep the handle from splitting in that high-stress zone.
