Need help IDing brass thing

I dug this the other day at a old house place in a area were a lot of CW activity was. I think it's brass. I thought maybe off a gun or something. Hope someone can help. I have also posted this with others in today's finds. Thanks for your help. :icon_thumright:

looking at the front rounded broken part reminds me of a wrench. but i also thought i saw Santa clause last year hope this helps. Merry Christmas everyone.

Does kinda look a forarm strap that would fit around an octagon barrel, but later than Civil War?? Tony
