All depends on where your hunting and what your hunting for. I love my Garrett AT pro. But like I said it all depends on you hunting situation.

What do you want to find? - coins, relics, caches, etc.

Where are you hunting? - seashore, freshwater beaches, parks, fields, old foundations, etc.

coins and relics mostly I'd be detecting mostly on farmland fields and woodland

Tesoro Compadre - 8" coil US$160.00

I looked at those and the cheapest one I can find in the UK is $300

Whites coinmaster

try a used silver sabre not bad price s/h great for all round use, easy set up,

ACE 150 sounds good to me with what, and where you plan on digging.

I myself the first day I broke out an ACE 150 managed to scoop up a 1887 Indian Head. You can call it luck, or just a good location, but that was more then enough to impress me with it's capabilities! Good Luck!

Sluice Box

Thanks for the advice guys

Look at the Eurotek Pro before you buy. At $219 it's hard to beat!!!

The F2 is a great detector that will keep you from having to upgrade right away. The 2 coil package for $215 cant be beat! I love the small 4" coil, amazingly deep for it's size & great separation in trashy sites. EuroTek Pro is also sweet, I haven't used one, but I really like what I've seen/read about it. I also like that it only uses one 9 volt battery as opposed to two 9 volts in the F2. Either one will be better than the Garrett bell-doingers, unless you prefer the bell sounds instead of beeps (like 95% of detectors use today).

I have a White's CoinMaster Pro and it is a very good detector. I believe the CoinMaster would be a good choice. It is American made and White's customer service is excellent. They also have a forum that is very educational.

I agree that the F2 and Eurotech pro are good starter machines. I would recommend you buy one with the double d coil for better depth and the double D will allow you to swing with less overlapping.

Just my opinion... Buy what you can afford, dig, learn, and enjoy yourself.
No matter what you start with, there is always going to be another machine with higher specs and claims.

Teknetics Eurotec pro! Just got one myself recently, and due to the weather here I haven't had an opportunity to use it much out in the field yet, but it sure seems like a really sweet machine! Great features, like the unique iron volume control it gives you (adjustable independently of non ferrous target volume), currently unavailable on any other machine regardless of brand or cost! A very good selection of accessory coils as well! Worth checking out for sure! Good luck with whatever you decide on!

Shaun,Having owned or operated most detectors, I would go with any NEW Tesoro that you can afford. (a used one doesn't have the warranty)Not only do they make good detectors, but they are simple to operate, plus the lifetime warranty.Whatever Tesoro you may buy, you'll always want to keep it if and when you upgrade.I still presently own a Silver Umax and a Vaquero, and I have found a lot of relics, jewelry, coins and even gold nuggets with them both.Anything above the price of the these Tesoros would be in the $1,000 + range.Good luck in your decisionKen
