Re: Need help understanding "Threshold"

Threshold is kindof a baseline. Its between not hearing anything and being able to hear the mineralization of the ground.

You'll want your threshold set to JUST barely be able to hear it. If you're nuggetshooting, you want to listen for a change in the threshold more than a solid "beep", as those deeper or smaller nuggets won't make an actual signal at all.... more like a whisper- a change in the threshold.

Try this. Set your threshold where you can barely hear it. Then take a coin and wave it under the coil. Do it over and over pulling the coin back until you can barely hear it at all, a slight change in the threshold. Thats kindof what a nugget sounds like.

Basically threshold is just what the name implies. Its the "threshold" between hearing a signal and not hearing it at all.

It is the hum you hear after you turn your machine on. You want to set it so you can just barely hear it

Re: Need help understanding "Threshold"

Jeffro and erikk are both right. Too little threshold and you might miss the weak signals, too much and the tone you hear will mask the weak signal.
