Need help with bottle id

Hello again! Here is one of many I've found over the past few days. Im having trouble IDing it. The notches on the bottom are throwing me off. I'm digging in a 1800's trash pit so this one is a mystery to me bc it looks to be 1900's?? Thanks again in advance!!!!

Thanks Surf!! I was confused bc the notches on the bottom reminded me of a snuff bottle.

With the side-seams continuing onto the base rim, I believe this to be a post-bottom mold bottle.

It looks large. If the volume of the bottle is 16 or 24 fluid ounces, it is certainly a beer bottle.

Thanks for that keen observation, you are correct, of course. I looked right past the presence of the side seam, to what I thought is a cup mould seam at the heel. I may have my eyes on upside down. I didn't see the post plate seam, and turned to the heel.

Thanks y'all! So this would put it in the late 1800's to early 1900's? Do y'all know what the 2 raised dots on the base meant? I've been digging up many different types of bottles from the 1860's-1880's and I haven't came across one like this.

The only thing I can think of is a mould code. Here's a Bixby with a couple:



"The dots probably are mold identification codes, serving the same purpose as a mold number, although it may be possible there were other reasons for these dots." S. M. Bixby & Company
