If it was covered in green crust a month in EVO or longer might have worked. With a coin in that condition, I normally try to pick it clean with toothpicks and a mounted magnifying glass. You might want to get a set of Andre's pencils
 

Give it the "tater treatment", stick it in a potato and let sit for 24 hours.
Take it out, rinse and wipe clean, repeat as necessary.

Chemicals in potatoes clean gunk very good, but of course some coins are hopeless.
