I have been trying to figure out what this coin is, I stumbled across a site this past weekend and pulled some decent 1700's British and a couple
US coins out of the ground. but this one has me stumped. it is 7/8" across and only has little detail on the front with the portrait out line and the best I can make the letters out are FR . ET The back is wiped clean.

Looks like a turn of the century French Liard. (about 1697-1701 they go - somewhere around that range anyway)
