I think the button is a livery button with the two crests of the Mountgarret family-

Mountgarret Family Crest and Coat of Arms : MyFamilySilver.com

Mountgarret, Viscount (I, 1550)

Crests:
1st: An Eagle's Head per fess Sable and Azure guttée d'Or holding in the beak two Annulets interlaced paleways Or (Rawson); 2nd: Out of a Ducal Coronet Or a Plume of Five Ostrich Feathers Argent therefrom a Falcon rising of the last (Butler)

Any ideas on the pottery shard .. would love to know what pattern it is and what it dates to.

Pottery sorta looks like salt glazed stoneware.

Pottery looks 19th century, looks like a piece of willow ware. That type of design had a lot of usage and is still being made.

Creskol, I think your glass is ironstone called Purple Mulberry by Elsmore & Forster. If it is, it dates circa 1860's. I found this pic on ebay.
