I found this at a home site that dates to the early 1800's. I detect this place often and always find something of interest. This particular item was found under a brick walkway that was relaid during a 1940''s renovation.
I have a suspicion what it might be but would like some input from you guys. The last pic is after cleaning and shows some design details. Thanks!

Handle from an old box?

Handle from an old box?
Its only a couple of inches long and what would be the handle has small prongs or spikes on it. I don't think it's a handle of any sort. :-/

Suspender clip???
I have found suspender clips at this site before and this doesn't match any I have seen before and seems a little bit large for suspenders. Also, if you zoom in on the very last picture you can see intricate designs stamped into the metal which seem kind of feminine. I was thinking some type of hair clamp. I may be way off though. But thanks for the reply! HH!

It looks like a form of strap adjuster, you can see the little prongs on the bar that would secure the strap.

I agree with some kind of buckle/strap adjuster circa 1850ish. Im surprised its not patented.

Thanks guys. I looked for a pat. Number or manufacture's name but can't find any distinguishing marks any where.
