Hey everybody, went out to a local creek for about 30 minutes before the sun went down and found this strange little piece of what I believe to be lead. I tested this theory with a magnet and, sure enough, it does not stick. It also had a white patina. It is very thin and almost looks like one of those electrical box punch outs, but it seems a little too thin for that and I don’t think those are made of lead to my current knowledge. It could be a seal of some kind. There was known civil war activity on the bank next to the creek, so don’t know if it could relate to that. Anybody have any ideas to what this is? Thanks in advance for any info.

Cool find! Look at images of colonial pewter buttons. I'm thinking that's what you have. Pewter tends to crumble like that, but have read here of using preservation wax? to halt the process.
