Found this today in south west Virginia. There were troops that marched by in the area.looks like it was squashed by trampling horses. Can anyone help me?

Just curious, but did you find it in West Virginia or western Virginia.

All and it is a harnes cover but not military even know military could have them.

Southwestern state of Virginia.

I used to do a lot of detecting in that area. Congrats on the bridle buckle shield.

"exactly",huh?Perhaps you can show us a C.W. period Patent then?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like that but I have seen several of them before and they all say the same thing.

I read over it again and the post I was referring to is gone but it is a 1860s-1890s harness buckle cover that anybody could buy and many Civil War soldiers did.

Thats the mystery,we can only find a Patent for them in the '90's?I have yet to see any hard core proof they were indeed CW period.A Patent would be the proof.Where are you getting,"Many CW soldiers did buy them?"

Of course the 'veteran' soldiers brought them:thumbsup:

I don't have any hardcore proof ether but I know many archeologists and metal detectors have found them in battle fields with other relics and I have talked with other people about them and they all say that they were used in the 1860s to the 1890s

Youngblood,I dont wish to argue anymore, show me the Archeological reports, show me some proof.I take an Archeologists word as far as I can spit.....I have proved there "thories",wrong more times than one...problem is they usually cant dispell any of there "mentors",work or suffer ramifications.......

If it weren't for archeologists we wouldn't know nearly as much history as we do today. History gets lost every day and archeologists recover it. Besides we should respect archeologists because they do the same thing as us just bigger and better.
P.S. Part of an archeologists job is to prove their mentors wrong.

I found one just like that yesterday! There are also two others here on TNet. Search "Heart Buckle Cover"
