Was going through some of my coin weights and came across these 2 tiny ones that have markings but I haven't been able to precisely ID them. Please click on the thumbnails to enlarge so you can see the details better. Can someone help with that? Thanks.

Found some similar ones on google that were described as Spanish colonial, probably 1600's. Some places say they could be 1500's though. Very cool coin weights Bill.

Are you able to get accurate weights for them? Do you think the larger one reads "IIII IIII" on the side with the beaded circle?

If the weight is close to this it may be in the same family-

Someday I will purchase this book to help out with these-

FYI though I have emailed Paul Withers (see the "contact us" on the book link) with questions before and he has been responsive and friendly. You may want to consider contacting him and asking him if he knows what these were for.

Not enough for me to ID, but the bigger one is a Coin Weight & most likely James I.

The larger one weighs 1.41 grams and the smaller one is 0.77. And it does appear that it reads "IIII IIII". Thanks for your assistance.

I'm 90% sure the IIII represents 4 Shillings or a Thistle Crown of circa 1604 - James I.

Thanks Cru. I also have a really nice James I 10 shillings weight (XS), and it weighs almost exactly 2.5 times as much as what you believe is a 4 shillings weight which should help to verify its denomination. Do you have any idea of what the smaller weight might be? It has an obvious "C" on both sides, and it also includes a small symbol representing what looks like an animal of some sort. And it weighs about 1/2 of the other weight.

Its more likely to be a small Bullion Weight, but it shows up in none of my books, so might be Foriegn.
