Was going through some of my old finds today and ran across this interesting piece. It came from a site that produced colonial finds, so I'm assuming it could the 18th century but I guess it could be later. It has a semicircular cross section, and displays an unusual serpentine design on the flat side. Don't have a clue what this came from. Any ideas??

Bill, Are both ends broken or is one intact?

Have you studied it from the possibility of it being 1/2 of a mold (for a decorative silver item?).

Only the end shown in the last pic is broken (the wide end). The other is a terminal end and is intact.

It's way too long for that (over 8" from where it was broken off). I've dug numerous legs to huge kettles and pots and they don't look anything like this piece. And nearly all of them are iron, not brass. Thanks for your input.
