Has anyone heard anything about Hermit Island. So far, all I know is that in the 1700's, great lake pirates supposedly used it as a base until they were wiped out by french traders. During the 1800's, a hermit resided on the island, (giving the island it name). From a source completely unrelated to any sources metioning pirates, I know that the hermit would spend lots of money, and that nobody could guess where the hermits money came from. The hermit was found murdered/dead of alcoholism (there is some debate on this). The island is in the Apostle Islands of northern Wisconsin, in Lake Superior, and has numerous caves. The 2 square mile island is part of the Apostle National Park, so I know that physically searching there is out of the question, however, I am still very intrigued by this story. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
