I recently found this at a site that is being developed for residential use. Any ideas what it is and which time period it's from?

What part of the country did this come from? Is it obsidian or flint?
I would check that spot out everyday after work and on weekends.

Thank you! This is in the mountains of Western North Carolina and yes I go out every day after work. After finding this I'm hooked! I found a piece today that I believe is a pecking stone. Triangular in shape and fits the palm of my hand. It's much thicker than a point with rounded edges.
