In research mode and I am looking to replace our 07 Honda CRV with a similar sized SUV in the next 6 months. No trade in as the CRV has skin cancer and a TPMS warning light issue for the 4th time since we have owned it. We have had so many problems with our POS CRV that Honda is off the list. Ford is off the list as well due to the closest dealership having a service dept that is incompetent, deceitful, and slow. I want gas only. Have a 40-60K budget. I understand this start-stop tech is EPA mandated but willing to wait for a 2027 model if it comes without. We live in a medium sized town and don't do a lot of long distance driving but do make several one hour trips each month to nearby cities. Not into hi tech as we are old as dirt.

Should we capitalize on shopping in Dec when many dealers are looking to move out 2026 inventory or wait for 2027 models? Recommendations to look at?

My girls swear by Kia. Wife just got her 3rd. Daughter on her second. Ten year warranty is what keeps them loyal. The wife got a new 2026 and after almost a year decided the 4 cyl turbo doesn’t cut it. She called my nephew who manages a dealership in another state and he didn’t have one. But suggested trading it in on a new 2025 with a 6 cyl. If she could find one. She did. It’s sharp and fast. I’m a mopar fan myself but I keep them forever. Cars cost now what I paid for my first house. You have my sympathy. Best of luck to you.

Hi. I worked for Toyota for 38 years and have never heard someone say they will never buy another Toyota. They dominate the evolution of vehicles with no one close. There's reason's for this. A great example is the Prius... introduced in 1997 (30 years ago) and to this day no other manufacture has been able to match it's reliability, very low maintenance and an mpg that's off the chain. We won't even get into the Tacoma's history path of durability. A 00-04 150k Tacoma sells for what it stickered for new. The Stout will be here in 2028 to snuff out the Maverick and Ranger. Can't get into the specifics but the industry better buckle the old seatbelts. Also their electric breakthroughs will boost the range to 700 mi. HELLO!!! All this good tech is slated and designed to lower build cost by 27%. Do I sound like a dreamer grinding on a peyote button... we just gotta wait and see eh. Buy a 3 year old Toyota and you won't have to rebuild your purchase decision.

we also still use our 2011 crv, 200,000 miles in if I remember correctly.
I also recommend buying used, the old saying goes 'a new car drops thousand of dollars just by driving it out of the dealership parking lot.'

From everything I understand about cars, 1990-2001 are the best years, I have a 2000 Acura tl 3.2 tl automatic. Very little problems, I had a 1995 infinity q45t very little issues, currently have a 1995 Volvo 940 no issues. I’ve heard great things about Toyota and most Japanese Manufacturers that they have very low cost parts and they are designed from the factory to have low maintenance. Volvo parts are expensive as well as all euro cars. Research at-205 reseal to rejuvenate your engine l.

In 2009 I bought an all AMERICAN MADE TRUCK. Toyota Tundra. Still driving it, mainly for towing the 7ton dump, car hauler. In the winter it plows the place out.
Never been stuck on the side of the road, just regular maintenance.

Lot of those Tundra stories out there. The one I like the most is when DC used the Tundra to tow the Space Shuttle to it final resting place. They tried with the Dodge Ram and broke em both in the process... snapping drive shafts, overheating and a host of other issues. Then the Chevy Silverado... blew the tranny and twisted the frame. The Tundra was then given away in a raffle and is still on the road... i dunno.

Yes and No. In 2002 the pilot run of 1873 had issues with corrosion worldwide. The corrosion "depending on climatic locations" issue began to become a concern as several northern units were showing up in shops with compromised frames and considered to be unsafe. Reported owners were contacted and made aware of the condition. Owners were asked to contact their local Toyota Dealership to discuss the remediation process. TMS disassembled the unit and installed a total new frame at no cost to the owners. TMS compensated Dealerships their current customer door rate to do so ($10,200) per vehicle... That's called customer retention and only one of many reasons Toyota is #1 and Lexus is #2 in the world year after year by more than 9,000,000 retail vehicles per year. So when you say "they were changing frames forever" I gotta ask... are you serious Clark?
