Been looking hard at maybe getting a T2 SE as my old nautilus is been in for repairs and shaft mod. since late October. I've got several new sites I scouted, and the only working machine I've got right now is a 1989 garrett master hunter 5. The only thing It's good for is maybe hunting the beach. Anyways, I've heard some positive reviews about this machine, but $900 is kinda hard to come up with right now unless I sell a couple of my guns :icon_scratch: Any input would be appreciated, Thanks.

If you relic hunting it would be a great choice.Light, deep, and a very fast picks goodies out of the iron like a champ.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm def. looking into getting a new machine.

Can only speak on the T2 SE but I have fallen in love with this machine. It takes a little time to really get locked in with it but once you do you won't have to worry about missing stuff. I. I never feel like I miss anything due to depth or something being close to iron. The finds I have come up with in my first 3 no the with this thing have blown my mind.good luck my friend

I bought mine for relic hunting and starting using it for all my hunting even though I thought I would probably do better with explorer. I don't fell that way anymore.

I do relic hunt most of the time, but I also hunt the beach, old home sites and school yards. The only problem I see is the open or spider coil in regards to getting crap hung up in it and possibly damaging it. I guess there is a way around it as most of the machines these days have them. I suppose they make coil covers to help stop this, but having never used this type of coil, I just don't know! I guess I'm still stuck in the dark ages :laughing7: Seriously guys, what do you do to stop this or is there any problem at all?

The only problem I've had is wheat stubble and I just switched to the 5 inch. The 5 inch is like a little lazer beam. Not many coils on the market only bigger than stock or the 5 inch that comes with it. There is one from the Ukraine thats 5.5 by 9.5 that looks interesting.

I am going to give the 5" a go this weekend in a trashy site. I chat with a T2 SE user on a regular basis who hunts the woods a lot and some pretty tough areas. He is amazed at the small coil and how nimble it is. Also said the depth is way better than ever expected. From my personal experience and input from others you just can't go wrong with this great all around machine. Best of luck

Long and short of it ....... I think you will be well pleased. Awesome depth. Great in the trash and iron. Fair price based on the competition. HH:icon_thumleft:

Mr. B,

Since we live fairly close, you in eastern NC and me in eastern VA, I think I can give you a fair shake on the T2 SE (I would invest in the SE model hands down). I have had my T2SE for a little over three years now and I have grown to love this machine....in the right environment lol. My first trip out I wanted to bust it up side of a tree but I kept my cool. The T2SE is sensitive and it likes to chatter some but with time you learn to "work" the machine and stablize it in the field. There will be areas with high EMI that just will drive you crazy over a few hours. It does not like the Minelabs at all, you will have to keep your distance if you hunt with a person using one. Besides that, no problems. Adjust your sensitivity to around 94 and it seems to quite down some. I run my as hot as I can (96-98) The machine is deep so everything you read is correct, I don't care what people say about it...it is DEEP especially in our sandy loam soils here in eastern VA. Stay away from the beach, it does not do well near salt water. The machine is super light so swinging it all day will not be a factor. It is has a very fast recovery time so you will not miss many targets bunched together or near iron. It can be a difficult machine to use in a trashy site but with the small 5" coil I have done really well with it. I like to run mine in +2 tone, just my preference. If I get a faint repeatable target I will switch it over to bp mode and let the T2SE grab it at remarkable depths. It is amazing to see it reach down another 2-4" and sound off perfect. If you choose to hunt in bp mode because you are working a pounded site, go slow and you will be rewarded. People tend to swing the T2SE fast and you can in the other modes, but bp mode is best used in a slow steady approach. It will lessen your false signals and you will have less chatter also. I have found hundreds of relics with this machine and it has become one of my two machines. I have sold everything except my T2E and my Minelab ETRAC.....but that is another story. Good Luck!!

Already been in contact with him, planning on giving him a call this weekend

The T2 SE is a great choice for relic hunting.... and I can see you have been given some great advice in this thread. If you haven't found one yet we can help, just give me a call. :)

I've used a Nautilus for ages love it. I have had a t-2 since they came out 5 ? years. My nautilus collects dust now. But i moved from Savannah Ga to N. Alabama and have not compared them in sandy soil. My nautilus would get a button or coin at 16" in sandy soil on the coast but was hard to hunt a trashy house site. You wont be disapointed with the T-2. takes a bit to learn but if you have used a DMC that wont be a problem.

Just got my nautilus back last Fri. haven't had a chance to use it because of rain just about every day. I'm going to let my son in law use it when I get the T-2 . Made a call this past weekend and got a real good price on one. Just got to figure out how to come up with the funds to get it!

WHen you say just got it back? Do you have to send it in often? I have observed that if I take batteries out and store mine in closet for a couple years, it has to be sent in for a tune up. Jerry used to charge 45.00 for this but its been a long time now ?5-6 years and it needs to be looked at.

this is only the 2nd time I've had to send it off in 24 yrs. It was getting real scratchy and giving erratic signals. I tried new headphones, but it was still the same. They tuned it up and converted it to the " S " shaft for me. Jerry sold the company some years ago,and the new owners aren't as quick as Jerry was. I think for just a basic coil rebalance or tune up is $ 75-100 bucks now. I'll pm you this evening with their new address and phone#
