Minelab X-Terra 50
Just got a new minelab x-terra 50 for christmas. I turn it on and a few lights on the side light up but thats it. The menu buttons or none of the others seem to work. Is there any thing I can do or just send it back. The batteries are brand new and I have tried several different pairs. The battery indicator doesn't even show up on the screen.

Matters,

Welcome to TN....

Sorry I know nothing about the X-Terra, never used one, but I think I read something about a reset......Someone will see your post soon who knows the X-terra..

If you modiify your title a little, someone will see it faster....Change the "New Christmas Present" to something like "Need Help With New X-terra Not Working" or something like that......

It sounds defective. Have you checked the coil connection to the back of the box to make sure its on correctly and not cross threaded? What happens when you press Menu Select after its on? I have a 50, 70, and 705 so I'm very familiar with how they work.

Nothing happens when you push menu or any of the other buttons. It doesn't beep or anything when turned on. The only thing that shows up on the screen is a few of the presets on the upper left hand side of the screen and thats it.

I understand you changed the batteries, but did you check to make sure they are in the right direction. There is a picture on the back of the case showing which way to put them in.

This was my first thought too. Check the coil connector to make sure it is inserted correctly. The batteries must be fresh and not Lithiums.

Yeah I checked the direction of the batteries they are correct and the batteries are new duracells. I even tried batteries from different packs to make sure they weren't dead alreadly. I have also checked the coil connection. I will call kelly co in the morning. Guess I will have to wrap it back up now.

Maybe try holding down on the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Or Have it turned on, and remove the batterys. Or even have someone hold the power button down, while you install the batterys. Cant see as it would hurt. Maybe some combination of this may cause a Hard Reset. Other than that :dontknow: Be sure to triple, double check to make 100 & 10 % sure the batterys are correct. And Unplug the Coil, and with a good light makew sure the pins, and connectors are o.k. Try all combinations of what I mentioned above. I have fixed many electronics with this method.

And you may try Hoding the menu button, or any combination of buttons down at the same time, for several seconds, while turning the machine, on, or off try both ways. Also look in your manual, and do the factory presets as best you can whith whats on the screen. Try anything, and everything.

There's one simple thing it could be.... a bad speaker or headphones. Try switching it up if you haven't yet.
