Hi everyone, i found this object several years ago at an 1876 farm house and at fisrt though it was an odd little hammer head, now i am not so sure because of the placement of the hole and 2 slots on either side of the "head" and the fact that the striking face is rounded, in one of the pics i put some string on it and it fit the grooves nicely so maybe some kind of plumb bob dohickey? The object weighs 281 grams or 9.9 oz's and is 4 inches long x 3/4" squared at the head end and tapers to a point on the other, it is non magnetic and appears to be copper, bronze or brass due to the color, any ideas would be helpful, and thatnk you all in advance

Just a general comment on photography. Using a white background is the worst color you can use. The camera tries to deal with all the white and in doing so, underexposes the object of interest. Go darker. Red, blue, even black. But no white please.

Thanks!!

Thanks to all for the info, and thank you BioProfessor for the photo tip, I will give that a try next time. Does anyone have an idea of how old this is, and also mine seems to have a sharper tip then the other pic, did they have different tips for different jobs? again thanks!

Chuck.
