Detector(s) used
Tesoro Deleon, Tesoro Tejon
Sensitive machine. Is this your first detector?

No, but first Tesoro!! I have owned several whites detectors in the past.

It could be a number of things, ground lines, power lines etc. Heck if its anything like my F75 and im sure it is. It will pickup rust flakes and BBs if set too hot. PM me and i will give you some info.

If you'll reread your owner's manual, you will find the sentence that tells you that the TID will display every target in each sweep. Until you get a little experience, keep the Sens down to about 5 and the Disc at about 3. Slow down your sweep speed to about 5 seconds per swing. The numbers take precedent over the notches. Experience will teach you which numbers mean goodies. For the time being, dig everything that gives you a solid sound. Tesoro has a distinct, mellow sound for coins that you'll learn by detecting. Don't get over anxious and discouraged if you're not finding more goodies than trash. Everyone digs more trash than goodies, but that's part of the game.
Practice, practice, practice. It'll come.
And learn the owner's manual by rote. That is your temporary "bible".

If your sensitivity is turned down and the detector is still unstable you could have a number of problems. First, check the batteries to make sure all are good and not Lithiums, only alkaline are good. Are the batteries inserted correctly. Check the coil plug to see that a pin isn't bent. If it is still erratic you could have electrical interference from any number of things, even a neighbors underground pet fence. Try it out in the country where you think you are away from interference.

If all else fails, send it back to Tesoro, you could have one of the rare bad coils that manufactures get or UPS dropped the box in shipment. This is why I always buy from a dealer where I can pick it up, but I am lucky in being able to do this.

Hope it's not a faulty machine. You have already received some good tips to possibly help correct. When we moved from Ca. to NM. I tried my MXT a couple of weeks after our arrival at our new home. It was all over the place. I thought for sure I had damaged it during the move. Then I noticed my sensitivity what up to high and all wire services for homes in our area are buried!!! Good luck. I'm also looking into a Deleon.

I will get out tommorrow after work and try it again!!! Thanks and I will fill you all in on what happens!!!!

Think I found the problem!!! There is a Power Sub-station right down the road!!!! Would this cause interference???? A lot of power lines near my house too!!! Any Idea????

It's possible. Try setting your threshold at about 1 o'clock, your sens. at about 6 and disc to about 3. Also set it in disc. mode. Get out in an area away from the power systems like Sandman suggested and see if it doesn't settle down. You might also check and see if the coil wire isn't too loose at the bottom and possibly setting up some interference.
