The one with the very fine edge may be a finished tool, possibly a hand axe that would be used for removing medium amounts of wood, such as reducing a small stave of wood during the bow making process. The other appears to be just a preform which was reduced for easier transport and would later be made into a finshed head or knife.

Thank you O PrimitiveOne, I wondered if the second one wasn't just a preform, because it doesn't show any wear, that I can see, but others thought maybe it could have been a hoe, seems like there would be some kind of polish or wear, and it's pretty well sharp all over. The one with the worked edge shows a lot of striking against something? those don't really look like flaking type breaks on the edge, don't know, still learning. It's nice to have at least gotten to handle these and look at them closely.

If that's a preform, does that mean the finished item would have been at least a large one? or could multiple small blades been worked out of it?

Thanks!!

The first one does look like it is a finished tool, it show's some sign's of edge work. The second one look's like a preform, it look's like it has been percussion flaked but does not look like it has had any edge work done to it. I imagine some preform's were used as tool for certain job's or they could have been further worked down into other tool's.

What state are these from hun just wonderin.......Never mind I see it now...har

More cool finds. You need to get out to where those were found and look around some more. Also, it's been rainin every day up here, but the divide keeps me from sendin it on south east to y'all. I tried.

Thanks y'all! I don't get to hunt this site, but Cletus does, and I look forward to what she might find. We'll take whatever rain ANYONE can send this way, at least they are saying the temps will drop after a day or two...
