Noobie here. Found this stone in the small Choconut Creek in Vestal, ny. Approx 1/2 mile upstream from the Susquehanna River. Stone weighs about 1.5 lbs with a hole drilled straight thru it.....is this a net weight? Thanks in advance for your help!

I does not look drilled to me. Not saying it couldn't have been used though.

The hole looks to have been formed by natural erosion. More than likely it had a fossil in there that eroded away over millions of years. I don't see any evidence on it that says it was altered by man so it's more than likely natural.

Thanks guys! Still looking for my first artifact!

That might be a stone Atlatl shaft "wrench" used to bend out the "kinks" from an atlatl shaft. Smaller versions of this tool were also used on arrow shafts in the same fashion. check out Ancient Native American Indian Artifacts, Relics and Arrowheads - Museum Page
