The ranch had a good size burn early in July. We found about two or three pounds of flakes in about an hour or so without really trying...the variety of materials is fascinating...jasper of many colors, obsidian, carnelian, chalcedony, fine grained basalt and such. Lots more out there but just let it lay, in fact most of these flakes will go back too. Found a bunch of agates too and some petrified wood. The only real artifact was a broken base of an obsidian point.

fist size chunks of both are easy to find here....obsidian less so...a lot of chalcedony too, like these..all found at the same time as the flakes.

It seems that we both find the same types of material, even though the obsidian comes from the the park (Yellowstone) it still is a welcome site to find it. I don't know why it is hard to find, but it is even harder to find a decent point made from it.

Oregon is thick with points made from obsidian...some areas almost exclusively so.
