Just started going through the 4 boxes I picked up today and with only one box done I find about 60 new 2012 halves. My question is why? It is a coin that is rarely used, most people never spend them in everyday change, there must be a million of them in storage throughout the USA and here they are spending money to make more of a coin not being used. Makes zero sense to me. But what do I know. Oh yea, a 1952 Ben in the first box, so I'm happy.

They've made roughly 2 million halves of each mint mark each year since 2002, just for collectors. NIFC, "not intended for circulation". They are the subject of much debate on these forums, as to whether they're worth keeping or not. I've never seen that many all at once, but they show up in rolls pretty often. You might want to try listing a roll of them on eBay and see what you can get for them.

Congrats on the Ben. I'm still waiting for my first.

The US mint secretively distributes these NIFC.

nice try mint

50 cent seen what you did there.
