Today is my 6th day on Ebay, not only getting my feet wet, but already up to my butt! As of this moment, I've made 27 purchases, with two bids pending. I've not posted anything for sale yet, I'm wearing my training pants for the time being.

1) YEP! Kid in a toy shop! Let's say I'm more mature now - at least a little ....

2) My debit card is limited to $1500 a day - didn't know that..... Paypal rejected the purchase and I had to throw another card on there.

3) Don't bid until you know EXACTLY what you're looking at - I'm very high bidder on some silver Canadian half dollars - duh.... My brains said they were silver dollars....

4) Once you bid, you can't cancel it - tried that with the half dollars....

5) Good gracious at the idiots like me out there!!! Like the Copper replica of a $5 gold coin - already up to nearly $250 - kinda like me on the half dollars.

6) Seems to be a lot of deception out there - I'm learning to pay very close attention....

7) My brother has me using Ebay Sniper now - should have used that on the half dollars, that way my bid wouldn't have been locked into Ebay yet and I could have cancelled.

Alas, I confess my Ebay immaturity in hopes of soliciting further confessions......

Unless something has changed, I think that you can cancel a bid.

You can always ask the seller to cancel your bid, or to cancel the transaction.

These are things that I wouldn't make a habit of doing on ebay, but I think those options exist.

After I realized I'd done that, I went through the Ebay help and they say NOPE!!! Hopefully it won't hurt me too badly, I set it as my Max limit. I'm just assured of winning.....

Additionally, just starting out I want to keep my ratings at 100% all the way. I've avoided purchasing from sellers with bad ratings. If there is one below 100% I've started going in to see what it was about.

You can retract a bid on ebay. Here's how- http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?RetractBidShow

You can also cancel someone else's bid as a seller- http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?CancelBidShow

Also, you cannot receive negative feedback from a seller. If all you do is buy items, your feedback score will always be 100%.

Great link! Thanks!

I just tried, but I had posted the bid several days ago.... Here's the Ebay response:

Your retraction request was not accepted
We are sorry, but your retraction request was not accepted. The bid you are retracting, placed more than an hour ago is for an auction that ends in 12 hours or less.

I'll remember this for the future in the event I do it again....

Whew! Got lucky and no big deal after all.

Got the halves for $56, but had mistakenly put my max at $200. And that brings up a strategy question....

I've noted that when I bid from Ebay in say the last 10 seconds it'll pop up and block my bid and state that someone's max bid is higher....

Did my max bid block others from bidding at the end? Apparently it did! And, maybe it blocked other's bids all along.

That would be a rather nasty strategy....

It doesn't block your bid, it just means the other person bidding bidding has a higher max bid on the item. Say I have something for sale and a bidder places a $200 bid and the price is currently $125. You place a $175 bid, but you get the "you have been outbid" notice. Now the minimum bid has been upped to $177.50

Ebay automatically proxy bids for you up to your max bid you put on the item.
