Sounds like ali baba and the forty thieves!!

Sounds too good to be true...

I have purchased some motorcycle parts and stuff thru alibaba.com with no issues but no MDing stuff. Those prices do seem questionable to me also....

T

Sounds like counterfeits to me

Dig until your arm falls off

How can they do that? Too suspicious!

Cheap Chinese knockoffs. Expensive ones at that. The sad thing is there are people who buy these from sellers that got them from alibaba not knowing they are fakes. No warranty and should they make the mistake of sending them in for service, no detector.

I've got a guy trying to sell me a "brand new" Excal for $900 but he says he can't locate the serial number that I want to run past Minelab to verify authenticity. No deal without Minelab verification.

Be careful, Alibaba.com is a known counterfeit detector (and other things) site.

Finding that out. You would think companies like Minelab could put a stop to these units flooding the market. It's not like they're being sold out of the trunks of cars.

I have sent detailed emails to Minelab, White's and Garrett including links to the Chinese companies selling the counterfeits and screenshots of the pages. The only one i heard anything back from was Garrett. It was a nice email from a gentleman saying thank you, they are investigating it and the next time I buy a detector get a hold of him and he would give me a great deal. That doesn't mean the others didn't care but I suspect there is not much you can do against a Chinese company. Even if they do manage to get one to stop counterfeiting their product another one would pop up in it's place. the evidence for that is in how many years it has been going on. the best they can hope for is that customs catches them before they make it into the country or that they catch the people selling them once they do make it in.

It's just very hard to believe they can use the same packaging, labels, branding, encasements etc and apparently not be held accountable for the thousands of customers that buy these inferior products and find out after the fact they are junk. I say it's high time for obama and holder to start working on keeping counterfeit produces as well as illegal aliens from crossing our borders. Or maybe they can provide every illegal with a confiscated counterfeit product and send them back to their homeland...

That is why i like Garrett they seem to care about there buyers..

Received this email from alibaba.com in response to some questions I posted on their website. They didn't bother answering the question I asked them regarding them using the Minelab name, packaging, etc.

Those prices are significantly below dealer cost. There are millions of $$$ worth of counterfeit detectors overseas. Remember, "you get what you pay for".

Absolutely Wayne. Just got off the phone with Nadia at Minelab. She says they are working with law enforcement on these issues but they are a VERY big problem for the industry.

The manufacturers do what they can. Unfortunately, unless the Chinese government enforces it, its difficult to stop. Last year, both Minelab and Fisher assisted in shutting down one of these distributors in the Middle East. There were thousands of units in a massive warehouse. Cosmetically, they looked exactly like the real ones, but the performance was no where near what real units provide. Some counterfeit Garrett Propointers were marketed around Christmas on ebay for $70, he got shutdown because he was selling them in the USA.
