These pictures are from a hunt on Friday at a new spot. I didn't find anything spectacular; most are broke and/or exhausted. However, I did pick up two large chopper tools. Too bad that point was broken. I was hoping that the tip was there as I was pulling it up. It's a pretty rhyolite too. I can't win 'em all though. It was a great day anyway and I enjoy finding a piece of ancient history.

Then, I found these today in Stokes Co., NC, near Sauratown Mountain. It turned out to be a great hunt today. Looks like I have an archaic blunt tip. Maybe a Kirk or Big Sandy type? It's a new material that I haven't collected before. Is it black chert or flint? It appears to be a better quality material than any black rhyolite I've ever seen. I found two unique tools also. Not sure what they are. One of them has a nice thumb impression and I think the other looks like a mano. All of these were found in a clear cut, at the top of a hill. Any suggestions? Thanks and happy hunting! 8-)

the first one in the second picture looks like a preform, cobbs knife that was giving up on,or was it used do you think, good eye too on the rest of them

You had a really good day! Thanks for sharing.

What do you believe #5 is? It is the same tool as I found the other day. Rind still on the ends but worked in the middle edges.
You had a great hunt

If you talking about the one I found near Sauratown Mtn., then I'm guessing it may be a scraper, preform or handaxe. I really don't have a clue what it is; it's some type of uniface tool.

Ohio has some solid black flint types, might be Zaleski Flint

You have some good ones in the bunch! Good view too.

I think that one could be an exhausted Cobbs. At first, I thought it was a flake. Then when I got a chance look at it real good, it appears to be worked down.

You know, I do believe there's a chance that material came from up north. It is out of the normal rhyolite and quartz that is around here for sure. Also, I've read about the Saura Indians and they built fortified stockades around their village homes for defense from raiding parties of Indians from the northern regions.
