I just ordered and received my first scoop for beach hunting - It's a Pro/Stock Scoop from Pro Stock in Michigan. First off, I'm not an employee or anything but this is a well built scoop. All stainless with nice continuous through TIG welds and very strong (I stood in the scoop lifted myself off the ground with it as a test). I didn't know if I should post a pic - I'm sure you've all seen too many scoops. This is my first scoop though and the owner Al Holden (name used with his permission) spent some time talking to me and steered me away from one of his other more expensive scoops based on the hunting I'm expecting to do. He took my order on Friday 8/28 and it arrived Monday 8/31! Great service!

BTW - For anyone looking to get into beach/surf hunting, this is apparently one of the required 'hidden' expenses you should plan for: scoops aren't cheap and the good ones are downright pricey. Talk about sticker shock! I talked with some friends from the board here locally and did a lot of research before I decided. I decided to prioritize on durability and salt worthiness and gave up some on the weight consideration. Thanks to all of you for your help! - you know who you are...

Glad you came to a nice conclusion on the scoop. I have tried many and till I start carrying a golf bag on my back full of scoops I will still be trying new ones. :laughing7:

You had a good shopping experience in getting the most for your money. I am also looking for a scoop with a long handle and I don't want to mortgage the house to buy one either. I have the following questions on yours; how long is the handle, what is the actual brand name, how much did it set you back? It seems that from your story it looks to be a store made model :dontknow:

He only sells the scoop and mounting bolt, you buy the wooden handle yourself - it is a common post hole digger handle from Home Depot or Lowes. You can cut it to the length you want, but I think they're 4' long stock which is the length I wanted.
The following isn't spam, just an answer to your question. I don't know if company info is allowed in posts, but you asked so I assume it's okay:

Al is the owner and the guy I talked to.

I am still trying to figure this one out how did you stand in the scoop and lift yourself off the ground.....Matt

Yea, I should have clarified - using the heel of the scoop as a fulcrum I levered the handle, lifting my weight off the ground. I cleared it up on one of the other boards, but I forgot I posted here too. Basically, I put my foot inthe scoop and pivoted the handle and lifted my weight off the ground - bottom line - its a strong scoop.

I didn't think enough about the way I said it to realize what I was actually saying!
